The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to begin a Housing Action Plan alongside the Official Community Plan and land-use bylaw project, including work with service providers and other levels of government, affordable housing providers, recommendations from the Housing Action Program Task Force and workforce housing provisions.[1]
The committee also allocated project funding and asked staff to work with a qualified Indigenous relations professional on early dialogue, engagement preferences and an Indigenous relations approach for the committee’s projects and the Housing Accelerator Fund.[1]
Trustees voted to hold the Ganges Village Area Plan project in abeyance while the OCP and land-use bylaw project evaluates village containment boundaries to manage growth and settlement patterns.[1]
The committee deferred acceptance of a workshop summary report on fire-risk reduction in the Douglas-fir zone until its September 14, 2023 meeting.[1]
On a development variance permit at Lower Ganges Road and Baker Road, the committee approved the permit subject to registration of a covenant and directed staff to forward correspondence and concerns to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure’s Subdivision Approving Officer.[1]
