The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to prepare a revised schedule for accessory dwelling units, removing lots within the North Salt Spring Waterworks District and other water-service districts, as well as areas identified as having moderate to high saltwater-intrusion risk. The motion carried, with Trustee Harris opposed.[1]
The committee also asked staff to work with relevant agencies to complete a Proof of Water Decision Tree and related mapping for accessory dwelling units as part of the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw review project. That motion carried, with Trustee Harris opposed.[1]
The decisions followed discussion of proposed Bylaw 530. The minutes record concerns that the staff report did not set out a path to legalize accessory dwelling units and expand their definition, and that excluding the specified areas could leave few lots eligible. Another trustee supported proceeding with the bylaw without amendments before continuing work on housing.[1]
