The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee asked Chair Timothy Peterson to respond to the housing minister’s Jan. 8 letter about Bill 44, after trustees discussed the legislation and its implications for the island. The motion passed. [1]

During the discussion, trustees expressed support for including Salt Spring in the bill’s density provisions. They also raised issues including rules for composting toilets, rainwater catchment, water supply and tiny homes. [1]

The committee’s minutes record a separate discussion about the provincial principal-residence requirement for short-term rentals. Trustees supported consultation and data collection to inform a decision about opting in in 2025. [1]

The committee’s next regular meeting was scheduled for March 7 at Meaden Hall. [1]
