The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee agreed to schedule three meetings per year with agricultural community representatives and to hold the next meeting in late May or early June 2024.[1]
The February 27 special meeting brought trustees together with members of the Agricultural Advisory Planning Commission and representatives of the Agricultural Alliance to discuss agriculture-related issues.[1]
Regional Planning Manager Chris Hutton said the committee was working on an Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw update, and that staff were preparing an engagement process with the agricultural community.[1]
Participants raised questions about farmworker housing, farmland protection and agricultural-scale composting; Hutton said the bylaw update would need to identify agricultural-scale composting.[1]
The meeting was live-streamed and recorded, according to the minutes.[1]
