The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee approved a three-year temporary-use permit for a food truck and two retail or office spaces in retrofitted shipping containers in the Ganges Village Area. The applicant had requested a three-year term, and the motion carried.[1]
A planner said staff recommended approval with conditions covering waste, seating and operating hours, and explained that the staff interpretation of a guideline would limit the permit to 60 days. The planner said the committee could choose a longer term through an alternate resolution.[2]
The applicant told the committee that a three-year permit would help with leasing and costs. A trustee asked about consistency; staff said the committee had issued a three-year temporary-use permit before, and another trustee cited a previous three-year permit.[2]
The committee also endorsed terms of reference for an advisory planning commission working on the Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw update project. Trustee Harris opposed the motion.[1]
For a separate rezoning application on Musgrave Road, the committee determined that proposed Bylaw No. 536 was not contrary to or at variance with the Islands Trust Policy Statement; Trustee Patrick opposed.[1]
