The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee and Capital Regional District parties agreed to meet quarterly, with the next meeting proposed for September 2024, according to minutes of their June 17 special meeting.[1]

The meeting focused on the protocol agreement between Islands Trust and the CRD. Participants discussed how to update it to recognize the Salt Spring Local Community Commission, which the minutes say has administrative authority over 11 services and advisory authority over another three.[1]

The minutes record that the parties agreed the LTC and LCC would meet about sub-regional issues relevant to either party, and that Chair Timothy Peterson and Chair Earl Rook would discuss draft changes to the protocol agreement.[1]

In the meeting recording, participants discussed whether the LCC could be recognized within the existing agreement or through a separate arrangement. A participant said the agreement should recognize the LCC’s role, while another said they preferred to include it in the protocol where possible.[2]

Staff said updating the protocol agreement would be similar to developing a bylaw and would require ministerial approval, according to the minutes.[1]
