The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee directed staff to draft a bylaw to rezone the property at 101 Bittancourt Road from commercial accommodation to residential use, and to prioritize the application. The committee also directed staff to proceed with public notification; the motions do not approve the rezoning itself.[1]
The request followed a presentation by Julian Clark, chair of the Lady Minto Hospital Foundation, who asked the committee to support rezoning for healthcare-worker housing and to expedite the application. The minutes record that the committee passed motions to prioritize the application, prepare a draft bylaw and proceed with public notification.[1]
In the recording, Clark said the foundation’s construction financing was agreed to in principle subject to rezoning, and asked trustees to move the application forward. He said the project was intended to provide housing for healthcare workers.[2]
The minutes say staff had prepared a preliminary report on the rezoning application. The committee’s next regular meeting was scheduled for February 13, 2025.[1]
