The Salt Spring Local Trust Committee approved an additional $40,000 for its Official Community Plan and Land Use Bylaw project, alongside a project change that includes supplementary community engagement. The budget increase is for the 2026–2027 fiscal year.[1]

Consultants recommended additional engagement between late January and March, saying the data collected so far did not fully reflect the breadth of community members and that more effort was needed to hear from less-represented members.[1]

Trustees discussed improving communication with community groups, explaining the committee’s role and jurisdiction, and sharing public materials and engagement plans with trustees and Advisory Planning Commission members before they are sent out.[1]

The consultants said next steps would include working with the planner on an amended workplan reflecting the meeting’s comments, and that the supplementary engagement phase and additional budget should be adequate to deliver within the projected timeline.[1]
