The Salt Spring Island Local Trust Committee asked staff to amend the Official Community Plan project work plan to coordinate policies involving other agencies and levels of government with those agencies, including policies on roads, water, sewer, waste, Indigenous cultural heritage and wildfire. The motion also calls for the plan to retain advocacy policies concerning the island’s ecological systems and community well-being, and carried. [1]

Staff said the regional planning team would support the project and that staff-led delivery would allow them to revisit the timeline, project charter and terms of reference, and prepare an engagement plan for the committee’s next meeting. [1]

During discussion, Trustee Laura Patrick said Salt Spring’s plan required cooperation with other agencies and that a broad approach was needed. Staff said engagement is legislatively required, but they could not guarantee how many people would participate. [1]

The committee also asked staff to prepare a report for the incoming Local Trust Committee on the status of the Salt Spring Watershed Protection Plan and options for next steps; the motion carried. [1]
