The Salt Spring Firestarter · Governance · 2026-10-21 · updated 2026-10-22 · Salt Spring Island

Trustee election

Preliminary count. Robin Jenkinson: 1,978 votes (leading, preliminary); Gary Holman: 1,881 votes (leading, preliminary); Bryan Young: 1,543 votes; Ethan Wilding: 1,294 votes; Eric March: 827 votes. The Trust labels these counts preliminary. The top two are shown as leading, pending an official declaration.[1]

Bylaw 553 sent for Executive approval

The October 14 Executive Committee package reports that rezoning Bylaw 553 received all three readings on September 24 and recommends approval. It would add commercial-zone uses while retaining funeral-home and residential permissions. A staff recommendation is not an Executive Committee decision or final local adoption. Neither outcome is verified here.[2]

Other local votes

The CRD still labels its other Salt Spring results preliminary. Its director count is Brian Webster 2,227, Jennifer Lannan 827 and Jesse Jule 790. For the four Local Community Commission seats, it lists Benjamin Corno 2,797, Pam Tarr 2,675, Earl Rook 2,578, Jenny McClean 1,594 and Myna Lee Johnstone 1,218. The first four are marked elected in that preliminary table; this check does not treat it as an official declaration. These offices are separate from the two Trust seats.[3]

The new term

The Trust says trustees will be sworn into office on November 12, followed by Council meetings on November 13 and 14. Current officeholders remain in office until the new term. The Council meeting will include elections for the Executive Committee and Conservancy Board positions.[4]

This is a dated public-record check, covering the local trust area and its associated islands. A preliminary count is not an official declaration; readings, approval and adoption are separate steps. Candidate vote totals are not a count of voters. Regional-district and school electoral boundaries differ from Trust-area boundaries; other offices are identified separately. This check is not a full re-audit of every bylaw.
